3 Peaks Success

They made it – a fantastic effort by all who took part and over £11,000 raised. It was a truly brilliant effort for our 2 fantastic charities!

Cygnia Maintenance has selected two great charities to support through various fundraising initiatives throughout 2017 and beyond. Both charities have been chosen due to connections with employees at Cygnia. The first is JDRF, a charity whose aim is to create a world without Type 1 diabetes. In addition to funding research in to a cure JDRF provide support to those suffering from the condition. The second is Marie Curie who provide care and support for people living with any terminal illness, and their families.

“Team Cygnia” take on the 3 Peaks Challenge £11,000 raised!

Our major fundraising initiative in 2017 is a team, made up of people from throughout the business, taking on the 3 Peaks Challenge.

In total, 16 members of Cygnia staff will attempt to climb the highest mountains of England, Scotland and Wales within 24 hours. The date for the challenge is set for the 9th July and all involved are (or definitely should be!) in training to get as fit as possible leading up to the event.

One of those taking part is Ian Keighley. Ian first joined Cygnia Maintenance as an engineer in 2000 and is one of our team of over 60 engineers that maintain and repair the signs on our clients’ buildings throughout the UK. Ian’s daughter Esme was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes in 2014 at the age of 6. Esme is one of 400,000 people in the UK with Type 1 diabetes, along with Esme, over 29,000 of them are children. Ian says “Esme is just a normal little girl and she just gets on with her life, along with her 2 brothers, regardless of her condition. Everyday Esme needs to be careful to control what and how much she eats. Esme has a Continuous Glucose Monitor permanently attached allowing her to have her levels checked regularly throughout the day, but she still needs to have a finger prick test at every meal time. She will also need to have up to 4 injections every day for the rest of her life, unless a cure for Type 1 diabetes is found.”

It is because of Esme that Cygnia have chosen JDRF as one of the two charities that will benefit from our fundraising. Our second chosen charity is Marie Curie. Marie Curie provide care and support for those living with any terminal illness and their families. We chose Marie Curie because we wanted to help as many people as possible to receive the comfort and support provided by the inspirational nurses and their supporters at Marie Curie.

As well as the team taking part in the 3 Peaks Challenge and many other staff fundraising initiatives we welcome donations from our customers, our suppliers and from friends of Cygnia Maintenance.

Our target is to raise £10,000 so please give generously to these causes.
